Larian Studios Announce a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Ever

The buzz surrounding The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction suggests that the team could be designing a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, branching plots, and deep class systems—qualities that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of specialized paths only possible if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be solved in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, players can look forward to a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
