Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences growing in influence within the city.

Note: Revealing details for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the main group to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.

This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Considering an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might appear out of place, but the events of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group understands precisely where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose death initiated the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and best friend, seeks vengeance.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as important members in the influential clan could help the team enter places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This means them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Strategists tables.

Viewers can look forward to finding out which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
